What is an Endocrinologist?
Endocrinologists specialize in endocrinology in the healthcare field. These doctors diagnose and treat conditions that are related to your hormones through prescribed medications and treatment plans.
Endocrinology
Endocrinology is the study of the endocrine system in the body, which are organs that produce and release hormones. Hormones are chemical messengers that travel throughout the body from endocrine glands and organs to carry out key functions. These functions include metabolism, sleep, growth, and sexual function and reproduction.
Hormones
The human body produces over fifty types of hormones, including insulin, growth hormone, melatonin, estrogen, thyroid hormone, adrenaline, and testosterone. Both glands and organs form the endocrine systems. Glands are tissues that produce substances in the body. Endocrine glands include parathyroid glands, the pituitary gland, the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, and adrenal glands. Organs are a structure made up of tissues that perform a specific function in the human body. The hypothalamus, pancreas, testes, and ovaries are all organs that are a part of the endocrine system.
